For All the Beans
For All the Beans was created with the intention of putting my technical skills as a photographer on display. I wanted to create images that were guided by a unique point of view that would also feel at home in a commercial setting. As a barista and general coffee junkie I thought I would challenge myself to bring personality and “oomph” to what is, when you get down to it, plant bits and hot brown liquid. Inspired by the steps of bean to cup and assorted associated paraphernalia, I used artificial lighting in a controlled studio setting to create the images below. Determined not to photograph a stagnant cup of coffee, I found myself driven by imagining what a high-end metropolitan café might want to hang on their walls. By letting that drive merge with my personal preferences for clean, crisp, bold visuals, I hope that people viewing this work can see coffee the way I do when I get to that first cup in the morning. Or perhaps the second or third cup in the afternoon.
